About Alyah
Alyah Horsford-Sidberry is a 4th generation Harlemite and the proud granddaughter of paternal grandparents who migrated from Antigua and the Dominican Republic. She and her husband are raising five children in her beloved Harlem, building on the dream first established by her hardworking grandparents. The entrepreneurial roots, in the case of Alyah Horsford-Sidberry, cut very deep: a few generations back to her grandfather’s real estate business. However, it is not only the entrepreneurial spirit which “runs in the family”, it is her grandfather’s values that galvanized her lifelong political activism, and which also serve as the foundation for her companies’ mission and business values today. Alyah's family history of strong ties to the community were her building blocks, and like her grandfather, she approaches any project from a broad social perspective where company expansion is as important as the improvement of the communities where this work is done.
Alyah received her Bachelor’s degree in political science from The City University of New York in 2007. Although Alyah is known throughout Harlem for her work within real estate and for her business ventures in the restaurant and entertainment industry, Cove Lounge, her commitment to political activism and community building cannot be denied. In addition to her professional business pursuits, Alyah is currently a Chief Executive Officer of the Uptown Democratic Club and a duly elected County Committee Member. She also previously served as the President of the West 120th Street Block Association.
Alyah’s dedication to helping the people in her community has never wavered, even after tremendous personal losses in 2017 and 2018 with the sudden and untimely death of her sister and then her father, less than six months later. The loss of her sister spurred the creation of Glocare, Inc., a not-for-profit whose mission is to transform our current system of postpartum care and create comprehensive services for mothers of the African Diaspora. From its inception, Glocare has raised awareness about the deficiencies in the area of postpartum care. Its fundraising efforts have yielded the financial resources to provide essentials for over 100 new mothers and their babies at Harlem Hospital and Metropolitan Hospital.
This year, Alyah has decided to further broaden her impact on our political landscape by running for Female State Committee Member of the 70th Assembly District. In this role, Alyah will be able to effectively serve even more people in our community and her life experiences have definitely shaped her immediate areas of concern for the people of Harlem - Health Care, Housing, Education, Economic Development, Safety and Justice.
